Help for Middle and Low income Homebuyers Starts January 1, 2010

Clint Zwifel, Treasurer of the State of Missouri announced that Missouri Housing and Development Commission (MHDC) will provide tax relief to thousands of qualifed families purchasing homes in the new year.

Some of the things the package provides for are as follows:

1. $15 million to pay the first year of taxes for qualified families making less than $100,000 per year on homes purchased after January 1, 2010.

2. $15 million to finance and construct affordable multifamily housing.

3. $5 million to continue to assist qualified buyers with downpayments and closing costs when purching a new or existing home.

4. Addtional assistance to qualified buyers purchasing energy efficient homes or energy saving appliances.

According to Mr. Zweifel, the money to fund these programs will come from MHDC's reserve funds and previously allocated federal recovery funds provided to the State of Missouri.
